This Memorial Day, Remember the Victims of Democide

Today, Americans will seize the opportunity to sleep in an extra day, fire up the family grill, and maybe – probably not, but maybe – wheel out to a family cemetery, lay flowers on graves, and contemplate the memories of their beloved for a few minutes.

Veterans’ organizations will parade in celebration of their own fallen comrades with star-spangled patriotic spectacle, and families out shopping last-minute for brats, steaks and cold beer may encounter American Legionnaires taking donations for red paper poppies evoking the memory of World War One and Flanders Fields:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

Once upon a time, Memorial Day – previously known as Decoration Day – was set aside as a day of remembrance for war dead. The holiday was established after the American Civil War, which counted 3% of the combined populations of the Union and the Confederacy as casualties. 8% of white males of military age – 6% in the north and 18% in the south – died in the war.

I suppose there’s something to be said for the contraction of the holiday into just another weekend of shopping and recreation. War is horrible to contemplate and there’s a strong case for the proposition that long weekends are really for the living.

But to be honest, I’d rather expand the holiday back to its original purpose – mourning and remembering all those killed in war and by state violence, not just those in uniform. And, furthermore, resolving to put a stop to the carnage.

The late and lamented Rudy Rummel, a professor at the University of Hawaii and the acknowledged expert on the phenomenon of “democide,” estimated that governments murdered more than 260 million human beings in the 20th century alone. That figure excludes – and is six times as large as – military casualties in the century’s wars.

As Americans, we’ve enjoyed a certain insulation from the horrors of war since the middle of the 20th century. We occasionally see a flag-draped coffin, or encounter an amputee on the street, but our concerns with, for example, terrorism, simply aren’t in the same league as the reasonable fears of those around the world living with American planes and drones constantly overhead or American troops on their streetcorners.

This Memorial Day, let’s set aside a moment to think about them.

Libertarians Delegates Select Gary Johnson As Presidential Nominee

It’s official! Gary Johnson just won the Libertarian Party Nomination for President! The voting just concluded on the floor of the Libertarian Party National Convention and we have the official delegate vote totals:

1. Gary Johnson – 56%
2. Austin Petersen – 22%
3. John McAfee – 14%

Gary Johnson is now the Libertarian Party’s nominee for President of the United States. This is the second Presidential election that Gary Johnson will be the party’s nominee for President.

Governor Johnson, the former two term governor of the state of New Mexico, has won the nomination for President by the Libertarian Party.

Johnson faced some tough opposition this year from other candidates, but in the end the Libertarian delegates are comfortable enough with his leadership and ability to bring forth the principles of the party to the mainstream public.

The 2016 election will be one of the most important elections this country has ever had. With the unpopularity of both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, the Libertarian Party is in a historic position to make a mark this election.

Johnson will now sell his platform to the American people and gain enough attention to get into the Presidential debates later this fall. He will be able to pull voters from both parties and put the Libertarians on a footing to make a historic showing in the 2016 election.

After a well-fought campaign the race for the Libertarian Party nomination is over. Each of the candidates toured the country meeting with state parties and their members at their conventions. They did their best to get the media to cover the race and earn the support of libertarians nationwide. All of that hard work has paid off for the party.

Gary stood head and shoulders above the rest during that campaign. Thanks to the the credibility of his two terms as Governor, Johnson was able to get earned media that put him another level. Libertarian delegates recognized that. They realized that his was the campaign that could get them into the Presidential debates. They saw that he was the only one who had the profile to be included in the polls.

They acknowledged that he was the only to be able to fundraise the millions needed to run a true national campaign. That’s why the delegates rewarded Gary Johnson with the Libertarian Party nomination.

Now there will be a short break before the delegates return to vote separately for Vice President. The delegates must realize that every advantage that Gary Johnson brings to the table is doubled by adding Bill Weld to the ticket. And doubling is necessary.
Only Weld is able to get hundreds of millions of dollars worth of media attention. Only Weld is able to raise the tens of millions of dollars needed to run a true national campaign. Anything less will not get us where we need to be. That’s the truth.

Furthermore, by #FeelingTheJohnson, delegates are acknowledging that they respect his judgement. It’s now time to respect his choice for Vice President. It’s time to unify the party and send a message to the country that we are a real major party that respects their Presidential nominee

Clinton Campaign Allegedly Complicit In Kentucky Voter Fraud

The Pike County Clerk’s office told local Kentucky station WKYT there were issues with one of their card readers which caused a delay in the numbers and as a result, the AP then erased Sanders’ votes, pushing Hillary to the lead by over 4,000 votes.

According to several reports the Hillary Clinton Campaign cheated in order to give her the win in Kentucky.
According to Real Clear Politics Clinton eventually received 212,550 votes in Kentucky to Bernie Sanders’ 210,626 votes for a difference of only 1,924 votes. The 4,000 vote discrepancy gave Clinton the Primary.

There were more than 76 reports of election fraud in 31 different counties called into Kentucky’s Attorney General hotline during the closely contested Democrat primary, according to Attorney General Andy Beshear. The Sanders campaign was expectedly outraged by the reports which were similar to what has occurred in other states – and many are pointing the finger at the Clinton campaign.

The subject of the calls coming in to the hotline included procedural and legal questions, voter assistance, voting machines, voter identification, residency, election officials, electioneering, poll disruption and vote buying.

Locally, the Attorney General’s office didn’t report any calls from Kenton County.  But, Boone and Campbell Counties each had one call for voter identification and a procedural question, respectively.
In Jefferson County, there were 25 calls made to the hotline.

The Office of the Attorney General, by law, cannot provide details regarding specific complaints or possible pending investigations, Beshear said.
