Forget the disingenuous “he’s a liberty Republican” or the old “he’s libertarian leaning!” with the Libertarian Party (LP) you know what you’re getting: 100% libertarianism, all the time, there is no substitute. No more asking yourself whether you have to compromise social liberty with economic liberty or vice versa, because the Libertarian Party is fighting for your economic freedom and individual liberty all day, everyday. Besides, who wants to be associated with an elephant or a donkey when you can be a straight-up porcupine!
Even though the odds are stacked against LP candidates when facing the two-party duopoly, Libertarian candidates go straight to the people and manage to make the scene so uncomfortable for Democrats and Republicans. It usually forces them the answer the questions they don’t want to and, in many cases, take a stance towards the direction of liberty they might not have had before. In a debate between two candidates that are basically the same, isn’t it important to hear from a voice of reason every once in a while? Working on a LP campaign in your community or even running as a candidate yourself is the best investment in liberty in your community you can make. If making a difference is important to you, go out and do something about, because the LP is there to have your back.
The business as usual attitude towards working within the GOP or Democrats sometimes makes volunteers feel like just another cog in the wheel. What makes the LP so unique is that fact that we are autonomous, all campaigns are local, and because of limited resources, unlike the two other parties, it makes every effort put in by every individual even more important. The LP knows it’s best resource is the people; because after all, the LP exists to make your lives better, the last thing they want is to make you feel like your just another random volunteer.
With the never ending debate between who can screw America the best, the Libertarian Party is the answer to America’s 3rd party dream. The common misconception with 3rd parties is “don’t they just take away votes?” Well, does that mean the Republicans or Democrats have the right to your vote? Obviously not or they wouldn’t try so hard to keep you from voting otherwise. A Libertarian at the table would give Americans the closest things to our Founding Fathers, something which is more than needed in Washington DC and our state capitals today.
Libertarians are finding new and creative outlets to get their names out their. With the growing aggression between the people and the political establishment, Libertarian candidates are putting the heat on Republicans and Democrats, causing more and more apathetic voters to consider classical liberal solutions to todays issues. Carl Loser, LP candidate for state senate in Virginia, created a music video put on by his campaign manager/ professional rapper; the video was a creative and fun way to get Virginia voter’s attention, and went viral immediately.

The political landscape is changing, and LP candidates are proving to be more and more viable each election cycle. In a political atmosphere growing increasingly hostile, the best place for libertarians to try and make a policy difference may be the place where the philosophy isn’t just welcomed, but where it is practiced and applied openly and shamelessly. My fellow Libertarians, its time to come home!
