Breaking late on Monday September 21st. . . The plaintiffs in the Kim Davis case have moved to hold the clerk in contempt for violating court orders by altering marriage licenses. Namely she has forced the deputy clerk to issue state-issued forms with “Morehead” instead of Rowan County and including the federal case number where the clerk’s name should go. Finally where it should say “deputy clerk”, the license says “notary public.”
The motion suggests that the alterations could later lead to the licenses being declared invalid. The relief sought? The plaintiffs have suggested the Rowan County Clerk’s Office be placed in receivership. That’s interesting.

On September 3rd Judge Bunning conducted a contempt hearing . . .now a famous hearing . . . to consider if he should hold Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis in contempt for willfully violating court orders directing her to issue lawful marriage licenses. Davis had refused to issue lawful licenses (to any couples) explaining that same sex marriage violated God’s Law, Natural Law and her conscience.
The hearing ended with Judge Bunning finding Davis in contempt. Her mugshot is pictured above. Of course a few days later Bunning let her out when her deputy clerks began to issue licenses while she was in jail.
The transcript is fascinating reading. It picks up at page 64 in this PDF (244 pages long) and runs from page 64 to the end. It is riveting.
