Earlier this week while Libertarian Senatorial Candidate David Patterson was concerned with interjecting practical and legitimate issues in to The Kentucky Senate Race for the people to discuss, The Kentucky GOP was taking steps to undermine his campaign legitimacy on the county level by sending an open request to Kentucky's County Clerks to scrutinize the 5,000 + signatures collected and validated by The Libertarian Party of Kentucky. State GOP chairman Steve Robertson told the Herald-Leader on Thursday that Republicans found "clearly fictitious and fabricated names," citing an example of a signature belonging to a purported voter named "Ben Dover" who listed his address as an obscene phrase. A charge which Patterson Campaign Press Secretary Warren Taylor responded to by posting "I can VERIFY that we did not count any of fictitious signatures" on the Kentucky.com article cited above.
This type of petty tact is to be expected of course from the establishment but at whose expense? "I'm looking to see if this is an appropriate use of taxpayer money. Clerks have to provide the data under open records but they don't have to do the matching. That's not their job." said LPKY Chair Ken Moellman. If indeed public funds are misappropriated for partisan purposes it is not only a violation of ethical conduct but possibly an indictable offense as well.
It is unfortunate that instead of engaging in discussion about the real problems facing our Great Commonwealth of Kentucky and the nation at large, a dense minority of the status quo are back to nitpicking the legitimacy of a 3rd party candidate in this race, it's quite possible that it is this type of retarded approach to the democratic process which leads to the political insanity experienced by those trapped with in the 'right/left' paradigm, exemplified in this case by the KY GOP.
